Latest developments:
- I’m moonlighting at the Globe. Still no sunlighting, though.
- I’m cable-less. Feels funky to be on dial-up again.
- I have guitar fever. (ie, I’m practicing like I mean it, for a change)
- I’m between fiction books. (Usually I read a jillion books, but I keep my fiction down to one or two at the most so I can keep the storylines straight. When I finish one fiction I go through a short period before I know what to read next. This is such a period.)
- Today is King’s X Day. Their new album, Manic Moonlight, should be in stores. Yum.

Note to Wolf Blitzen: Get that SCUD out of your ass: WE’RE NOT AT WAR. Yet.

I have officially joined in the national paranoia. I feel pain, loss, anger, knee-jerk patriotism, and a multitude of fears that I had learned to discount before: fear that the wrong persons may be held responsible prematurely; fear that ignorant Americans will racially marginalize all Middle Eastern peoples among us (heck, I wonder if that’s why I get so many odd looks when I’ve gone out in public this week. A casual glance might have you thinking I’m Turkish or Syrian, perhaps); fear of another Vietnam - a long and gory war with unclear goals and an undefined ‘enemy’; fear that politicos will surf the wave of political unity to push through questionable policies; and fears that people, individuals, will seek to profiteer. Already people are burning mosques in the heartland, gouging customers on the price of flags and gasoline, and installing ‘Carnivore’ surveillance at our ISP network centers.
I want to see a ‘response’ to this attack as much as anyone but I don’t want to see any more innocent people hurt. I know I’d make a lousy policy maker, and that is why I never went into politics. Let the ones in charge make the decisions - it’s not as if me throwing a tantrum here will make them change their minds anyway.
On a more petty note, if I see another slow-motion montage of ‘human drama’ photos accompanied by suitably-touching background music, I think I will hurl.
